Terry Richardson has been a very big deal for some time now, and his position of power in the fashion world is undeniable. Think about your favorite model or celebrity — there’s a very good chance that she has posed for Terry Richardson, and that he’s even shot some of your favorite campaigns. Kate Moss, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Miranda Kerr, Lady Gaga — these are just a few big names who’ve taken some gorgeous pictures by his lens. The photographer’s style is so iconic, he even has his own vintage eyewear collection so people can get his look. So why did Vogue recently make this announcement to Us Weekly?

The last assignment Terry Richardson had for US Vogue appeared in the July 2010 issue and we have no plans to work with him in the future. -Vogue

Well, because Richardson has been accused of sexual assault on many, many occasions. Recently, another model (Emma Appleton) came forward and accused the photographer, offering a screenshot of an alleged message from him as proof. Although sources are now saying the whole thing was a hoax, other publications have followed Vogue‘s lead and announced the end of an era of Terry Richardson photos in their pages. Target and W Magazine are also finished with him for the foreseeable future and others may follow suit.

So, did Vogue just destroy Terry Richardson’s career? Perhaps. But as of right now, he’s still getting plenty of work (Mariah Carey just posed for him) and we suspect he won’t be starved out of the industry just yet. Still, after years of reading disturbing accusations against him (just take a look at the “Controversy” section of his Wikipedia page) it’s clear that people are tired of the speculation. He may not have been convicted in a court of law, but he wouldn’t be the first powerful celebrity to evade punishment for wrongdoing. And it says a lot about the industry that these big names in the fashion world are beginning to take a stand.
