Retro-inspired, colorful, and more than a little bit quirky … there’s just something lovable about Jess’s style, isn’t there?

Whether she’s dressing up in an ever-so-classy gold and white brocade cocktail dress for the holidays or pairing her cutest color-blocked look with coordinating kitten heels for her best friend’s bachelorette party, Ms. Day always sticks to her signature style, which is capital-A A-dorable: what wouldn’t you give to raid her dress closet alone?  After all, each of her dresses checks at least one box: lacy, bowed, whimsically printed, puff-sleeved and/or sweetheart-necklined.

As she’s a girly-girl at heart, Jess mainly sticks to feminine silhouettes in skirts and dresses – she rarely dresses down (she’s been known to crawl under cars in her very finest Eva Franco dresses), but when she does, she still looks polished with a touch of cutesy on top. On a day camping in the woods, she might don a plaid flannel shirt, but she’ll pair it with a vintage backpack and expertly done hair (her hair is always enviably perfect; it must take sorcery for her bangs to always look so good). Or, she might dig out her favorite overalls – either way, Jess’ outdoorsy looks are cute enough to rival her party duds.

So what do you need to recreate Jess’ signature style? (Besides an unlimited shopping spree at Kate Spade, that is). Well, color is key. When she finds something she likes, she buys it in every color – and that goes for shoes, sweaters, pea coats, and even patterned button downs. You’ll also want to go for classic staples with some prep thrown in, a la J. Crew. Oh, and don’t forget some vintage-looking idiosyncratically-patterned dresses: many of the cutest of Deschanel’s onscreen wardrobe comes from ModCloth – so happy shopping!
